The Super Star (スーパースター, Super Star), known in older games as the Starman, is an item in all three games of the Super Smash Bros. series. As well as spawning normally, it can also be found in Capsules and Party Balls. It automatically bounces on the field and can fall off the stage. A character who touches the Super Star is granted invincibility for 10 seconds, though characters with a Super Star can still be hit by Isaac's attack and the Team Healer. CPUs tend to try to evade characters under the effects of a Super Star and in Melee; they won't even attack. In the same way that the Hammer comes with its own music, whenever a character is under the effect of a Super Star, special music will play in the background and the stage music will stop. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the music sounds just like it did when the player got a Super Star in Super Mario Bros. Unlike most items, the Super Star will jump around erratically, similar to its behavior in the Mario games. Fighting Alloy Team members in Multi-Man Brawl are able to use the Super Star, so one should be careful.

Trophy Info[]

In Super Smash Bros. Melee[]

StarmanM

Starman as a trophy in Melee

Trophy #250
This item makes you invulnerable to all attacks for a short period of time. The Starman bounces around and eventually tumbles out of the stage, but all you need to do is touch it to power up. It possessed similar powers in Super Mario Bros., except you could also harm enemies just by touching them while under its influence.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]

Star Man

Starman as a trophy in Brawl

An erratically bouncing item that is hard to catch. If you can grab it, though, you'll be invulnerable to all attacks for a short time. In addition, no one will be able to grab or throw you, either. Make the effort to grab the Starman when it appears--watching your opponents turn and run from you makes it all worthwhile.

Super Mario World (1991)

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U[]

Starman(item)3DS

You may recognize these star-shaped items as they bounce across the stage. Picking one up will grant you a short period of invincibility. You can't wipe out enemies just by walking into them--like in Mario games--but you can still attack without fear. Your foes will be running scared!

Trivia[]

  • It can be used to avoid the lava wave on Norfair. Players can also grab their opponents to keep them away from the safe zone. It can also avoid the acid in Planet Zebes and Brinstar resulting in an SD.
  • If Snake obtains the Super Star and uses his Final Smash, the visual effect of the Starman will still appear. This happens whenever he uses an item that gives a visual effect, like the Smoke Ball.
  • The song played when someone gets the Super Star item in the original Super Smash Bros. is reused in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
  • The name Starman is changed to Super Star in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
