Stock glitch

The Stock Glitch is a glitch in Melee that allows you to play a character with the stock design of another character. This will also show the character of the stock design you're using underneath the character roster. Also, the your character's name and your token will be on the character you're actually using to fight when you do this Glitch. If you press Y or X after you've done the glitch correctly, the bottom of the screen will show the actual character and the Stock Glitch won't work. This has been discovered in 2009 by EPsilon933.

The glitch requires that your initial character selected have fewer pallet swaps than the character you hover your icon over. This means that characters who have the maximum of 6 pallet swaps cannot perform this glitch, and that characters that have 4 pallet swaps could have two options for their glitched stock head.

People will sometimes do this in tournaments or in friendlies. The most common stock designs out of this Glitch are Yoshi's and Kirby's stock design.

How to do the Stock Glitch

1. Select a character that has only 4 or 5 different pallet swaps in any mode which allows to you to select a character except Tournament Mode.

2. Hit the B button once

3. Place your icon over another character that has more pallet swaps than your selected character

4. Do not press the A button

5. Hit the Y button once or twice (Characters with 4 pallets have a second stock head option if you press Y twice over a character with 6 pallets or if you press Y once over a character with 5 pallets. Characters with 5 pallets can only press Y once over a character with 6 pallets.) Your selected character must have 4 or 5 pallets and your icon must be placed over a character who has 5 or 6 pallets.

6. Press L + R + Start

7. Go back to the mode that you were previously in

If done correctly, the glitch should occur

Link will receive the white Kirby stock design

Young Link will receive the blue Yoshi stock design

Pichu will receive the blue Yoshi stock design or yellow Roy stock design

Pikachu will receive the white Kirby stock design or green Peach stock design

Jigglypuff will receive the white Kirby stock design

Mewtwo will receive the white Kirby stock design or white Marth stock design

Mr. Game & Watch will receive the blue Captain Falcon stock design or green Donkey Kong stock design

Marth will receive the white Kirby stock design

Roy will receive the blue Yoshi stock design
