Just one kooky subset of the diverse cast of enemies in EarthBound, these strange creatures are aliens in the employ of Giygas. Variations of the Starman race include Starman, Starman Jr., Starman Deluxe, and Starman Super. They all use PSI powers, but their strength differs depending on the level on which they're found.
Starman appears as an Assist Trophy that moves by teleporting and unleash PK Beam γ or PK Beam Ω on their enemies, the former launching an accurate projectile while the latter launching projectiles everywhere. Getting hit by the projectile paralyzes the player who was hit by the beam. After launching their PK Beams, they teleport to another area and start attacking them from that location. They also appear as common enemies in Smash Run, doing the same thing as his Assist Trophy counterpart. If any sort of reflector is used against their attack (e.g Pit's Guardian Orbitars), the PK Beam γ is reflected onto the Starman, and a "smaaAASH!!!" sign will appear above the Starman, instantly killing them.
These alien henchmen serve Gigyas, the chief villain of EarthBound. In Smash Bros., the Assist Trophy Starman will teleport around and fire off PSI moves like PK Beam γ or PK Beam Ω. You can defeat one summoned by an opponent, but they won't go down without a fight.
SNES - Earthbound (06/1995)
The Starman is the third character to be both Assist Trophy and common enemy, the first being Hammer Bro. and the second being a Metroid.
Starman is the second character from the EarthBound / MOTHER series to be an Assist Trophy, the first being Jeff Andonuts.
There are some slight contradictions based the Starman's moves. Although, they can use PK Beam γ in EarthBound Beginnings, a move that instantly KO an unprotected target. When shooting it to a player, it doesn't launch them off-screen, only if damage ratio is high.
Also, neither versions of Starmen can use PK Beam Ω. Ana is the only possessor of the move.
