The Prince of the Sablé Kingdom (referred to as Sabure Prince in Super Smash Bros. Brawl) is the protagonist in the Japan-only Game Boy game, For the Frog the Bell Tolls. He has no official name, since he is named by the player in the beginning of the game.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U[]

The Prince of Sablé is a new Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. He transforms into a snake or a frog and unloads multiple attacks on any opponent he catches. He was revealed in a Pic of the Day along with his Trophy. The Frog can jump, but the Snake can't, and only his human form can take damage. His trophy form depicts him in all three forms.

Trophy Description[]

A naive but kind prince in the Game Boy title Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru. He sets off on a journey to the Mille-Feuille Kingdom to resue the kidnapped Princess Tiramisu. If you summon him in this game, he'll either turn into either a frog or a snake. When a foe gets close, he'll kick up a cloud of white smoke and go on the offensive.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]

The Prince of Sablé re-appears in this game as one of the Assist Trophies. He appears in all stages, except for Suzaku Castle and Mute City SNES – whose stages have rather narrow platforms and wide gaps not suitable for his abilities. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has nerfed the prince overall slightly, with the rapid smoke attack having a smaller hitbox and the final blow dealing less knockback. Destroying the Assist Trophy earns a point. A Spirit of him is available as well, at first showing his frog and snake forms and being found by using the cores of Prince Peasley, Winky, and Rattly. It is also available in Adventure Mode: World of Light in the northern area of the Dark Realm. Once its Level reaches 99, the Spirit can be enhanced into its second form, which shows the Prince of Sablé in his human form. Both forms have three slots and grant defense boosts, and the Spirit's second form increases how long a player is transformed by an item.

Spirit Battle[]

In the Spirit Battle, Greninja and King K. Rool will be the main fighters to beat, referencing the forms that the Prince can take on in his, with Greninja referencing his frog form and King K. Rool referencing his snake form. He can appear himself as a hostile Assist Trophy.

Trivia[]

  • The Prince of Sablé is the only Assist Trophy who debuted on the original Game Boy console.
  • When Sakurai revealed that the Prince would be featured as an Assist Trophy, he noted that he did not know what the Prince had for his actual name. This references how the Prince has no official name of his own (unless one counts his title as a "name") and players choose his name.
  • Although it is never removed from its sheath, the game's data reveals that the Prince's sword matches the design seen in the concept art for Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru.
  • For reasons unknown, the Prince's voice clip that plays when players summon him does not appear in the Sound Test for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
