This is the list of known changes in version 1.0.4 released exclusively for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

General

  • Notice For vertical knockback Directional influence has been reverted to its Melee/Brawl form, where holding perpendicular to an attack's knockback results in the most trajectory change, and holding towards or against the knockback has no effect. Vectoring still applies for horizontal knockback.
  • Notice DACUS has been removed, making up smashes slightly less versatile.

  • Nerf When used off-stage to suicide, Flying Slam now favors the opponent, KO'ing Bowser first.

  • Nerf Down throw deals less damage. (8% → 7.5%)
    • Nerf The total number of hits has also been reduced. (10 → 8)
Stock SSB4 charizard Charizard
  • Nerf Dragon Rush (Side-3) now does 11% damage instead of 15%.
Stock SSB4 diddy kong Diddy Kong
  • Buff Jab 3 has a larger hitbox.
  • Bugfix Peanut Popgun's hitstun canceling has been removed.

  • Buff Forward aerial has increased knockback scaling: (85 → 95)
  • Nerf Down aerial now causes 5 hits and deals less damage overall.
    • Buff Its landing lag has been reduced.
Stock SSB4 falco Falco
  • Buff Forward aerial's landing hitbox has been tweaked and now deals 5% damage.
  • Buff Grounded Blaster shoots faster.
  • Bugfix Reflector Void (Down-3) now properly reflects Villager's Timber.

  • Buff Landing lag on all aerial attacks has been reduced.
  • Buff Aerial version of Flame Choke can no longer be teched.
Stock SSB4 greninja Greninja
  • Nerf Up smash's first hit's radius decreased: 6.5 → 5.0.
  • Nerf Clean up smash's second hit's center radius decreased: 7.0 → 6.0.
  • Nerf Clean up smash's second hit deals 2% less damage: 13% → 11%.
  • Nerf Clean up smash's second hit's bigger hitboxes Y-offsets decreased: -5.0 → -4.0.
  • Nerf Late up smash's second hit deals 1% less damage: 11% → 10%.
  • Buff Down smash deals 2% more damage: 11% (katanas), 9% (arms) → 13% (katanas), 11% (arms).
  • Nerf Down smash's knockback scaling decreased: 93 → 90.
  • Nerf Forward aerial's knockback scaling decreased: 92 → 84.
  • Notice Up aerial's hits have been restructured: hits 1-5, hit 6 → hits 1-4, hit 5, hit 6. Its timing and overall damage output remain the same.
  • Notice Up aerial's fifth hit's angle altered: 366° → 85°.
  • Notice Up aerial's fifth hit's fixed knockback value increased: 0 → 10.
  • Notice Up aerial's fifth hit's radius increased: 5.5 → 6.2.
  • Nerf Up aerial's sixth hit's knockback scaling decreased: 190 → 168.
  • Buff Up aerial's sixth hit's radii increased: 6.0, 7.0 → 6.2, 7.0.
  • Buff Shadow Sneak and Shadow Strike's knockback scaling increased: 100 → 102 (normal), 100 → 101 (reverse).
  • Buff Shadow Sneak's ending lag decreased.
  • Buff Shadow Sneak's shadow travels faster.
  • Bugfix Fixed a glitch where Greninja could cancel its landing lag with Shadow Sneak.
  • Nerf Hydro Pump's base knockback decreased: 85 → 65.
  • Nerf Hydro Pump's knockback scaling decreased: 130 → 100.
  • Nerf High-Capacity Pump's (Up-2) fixed knockback value decreased: 100 → 90.
  • Nerf Greninja's hurtbox size increased.
Stock SSB4 ike Ike
  • Buff Neutral attack's third hit hits one frame earlier: frame 9 → 8. This makes all three hits for his neutral attack connect more reliably.
  • Buff Forward tilt's ending lag decreased.
  • Buff Down tilt deals 1% more damage: 7% → 8%.
  • Buff Down tilt's ending lag slightly decreased.
  • Buff Down tilt now knocks the opponent vertically instead of horizontally, allowing for additional follow-ups.
  • Nerf Down tilt's range slightly decreased.
  • Buff Down smash's horizontal knockback increased.
  • Buff Forward aerial's animation is much faster overall.
  • Buff Forward aerial's hitboxes sizes increased by about 10%.
  • Buff Down aerial's hitbox size increased.
  • Buff Back aerial deals 1% more damage: 13% → 14%.
  • Notice Some of Great Aether's hitboxes are now 24% further away from Ike.
Stock SSB4 jigglypuff Jigglypuff
  • Bugfix Fixed a glitch that allowed Rollout to perform instant reversal.
Stock SSB4 king dedede King Dedede
  • Nerf Forward aerial deals less damage: 13% → 12%.
  • Buff Down throw's knockback angle has been altered: 70 → 80.
  • Nerf Down throw's knockback scaling has been increased: 60 → 82.
  • Nerf Minimum Gordo reflection damage has been reduced: 3% → 2%.
  • Nerf All Gordo hitboxes are smaller in radius by 0.4 units. Custom moves are affected as well.
  • Nerf Characters can air dodge out of and escape Dedede Burst.
Stock SSB4 kirby Kirby
  • Notice Copy abilities whose base character's neutral special was altered by the patch have been altered in the same way.
  • Notice Many behaviors, such as Final Cutter and all variations of Stone, have been adjusted.

  • Nerf The first hit of forward smash's base knockback reduced: 60 → 47
  • Notice Fast-fall down aerial no longer bounces on shield.
  • Notice Removal of Toss Canceling. Now suffers from proper lag when throwing Bombs upon landing.

  • Nerf Rapid jab's damage has been reduced: 1% → 0.7%
  • Nerf Rapid jab finisher's damage has been reduced: 8% → 7%
  • Nerf Forward tilt's range has been reduced; hitboxes are now slightly closer to Little Mac's body.
  • Nerf Neutral Aerial SDI multiplier has been increased: 1x → 2x
  • Nerf Jolt Haymaker is slower and travels 10% less distance in the air.
Stock SSB4 lucario Lucario
  • Nerf Extreme Speed has drastically increased landing lag: 36 frames → 60.
  • Nerf Extreme Speed and Extreme Speed Attack's (Up-3) second hit's ending lag increased: 0 frames → 8.
  • Nerf Extreme Speed Attack's first hits ending lag increased: 0 frames → 5.
Stock SSB4 lucina Lucina
  • Notice Jab 1's base knockback has been reduced: 25 → 20
  • Notice Jab 1's knockback scaling has been reduced: 60 → 50
  • Bugfix Fixed bug where using Counter after being trumped from a ledge would change momentum.
Stock SSB4 luigi Luigi
  • Buff Forward smash deals 1% more damage: 14% → 15%.
  • Notice Forward smash's angle altered: 55° → 53°.
  • Notice Down smash's back hit's angle altered: 70° → 60°.
  • Buff Down smash's back hit's knockback scaling increased: 80 → 100.
  • Buff Forward aerial's hand hitbox radius increased: 4.8 → 5.6.
  • Notice Forward aerial's hitbox order reversed. This has no practical effect.
  • Buff Super Jump Punch's ground and aerial sweetspots' radii increased: 1.6 → 1.7 (ground), 2.1 → 2.2 (aerial).
  • Notice Super Jump Punch's ground and aerial sweetspots' z-offsets increased: 6.1 → 7.0 (ground), 4.7 → 5.5 (aerial).

  • Nerf Up tilt's damage reduced: 6.3% → 5.5%
Stock SSB4 marth Marth
  • Bugfix Fixed bug where using Counter after being trumped from a ledge would change momentum.
Stock SSB4 mega man Mega Man
  • Bugfix Fixed a bug where Mega Man could cancel hitstun by using Rush Coil.
  • Bugfix Fixed a bug where grabbing Mega Man after using any up special wouldn't refresh it.
  • Buff Leaf Shield's ending lag has been reduced.
Stock SSB4 brawler Mii Brawler
  • Nerf Omega Blitz's maximum damage has been reduced: 45% → 42%

  • Notice Certain hitbox properties have been adjusted.
Stock SSB4 mr game and watch Mr. Game & Watch
  • Bugfix Fixed a bug where grabbing Mr. Game & Watch after any up special wouldn't refresh it.
Stock SSB4 ness Ness
  • Nerf Ending lag of PK Thunder 2 has been increased.
  • Nerf Down throw damage decreased: 9% → 7%
  • Bugfix Fixed a bug where down throw deals less damage to Mr. Game & Watch.
Stock SSB4 olimar Olimar
  • Nerf Pikmin Pluck cannot be ledge-canceled anymore
  • Buff Pikmin Throw's latch time has been increased.
  • Buff White Pikmin's latch damage increased: (2.6% → 3.7%)
  • Buff Red, yellow, and blue Pikmin's latch damage reduced: (1,3% → 1.1%)
  • Bugfix Fixed a bug where Pikmin would become unusable when using a down smash after a down throw.
Stock SSB4 pac-man Pac-Man
  • Nerf Up Smash's ending lag has been increased.
  • Nerf Bonus Fruit's Galaxian Flagship damage reduced: (11% → 9%)
  • Notice Power Pellet now heals 2% instead of 1%.
  • Notice It now takes 13% damage to launch Fire Hydrant instead of 12%.
Stock SSB4 palutena Palutena
  • Nerf Pivot grab has decreased range.
  • Buff Both up and down tilt has reduced ending lag.
  • Buff Up smash's hitbox now lingers for three more frames.
  • Bugfix Fixed bug where using Counter at certain parts of a walk or run animation would propel Palutena forward a short distance.
Stock SSB4 peach Peach
  • Bugfix All aerials are now affected by stale move negation when used during float.
  • Bugfix Removal of Toss Canceling. Now suffers from proper lag when throwing Vegetables upon landing.
  • Bugfix Turnip ledge canceling removed.
Stock SSB4 pikachu Pikachu
  • Notice Thunder is now a single projectile instead of a stream of four separate projectiles, meaning it cannot be absorbed four times (by Oil Panic, for example.)
  • Buff Skull Bash's knockback growth has been increased: 60 → 62
  • Buff Forward Smash's (early) knockback growth has been increased: 65 → 73
  • Buff Forward Smash's (late) knockback growth has been increased: 100 → 102
  • Buff Thunder's (blast) knockback growth has been increased: 62 → 66
Stock SSB4 robin Robin
  • Buff Robin can now grab edges from behind during Elwind.
  • Bugfix Fixed how using Thoron in the air would refresh Robin's double jump.
  • Bugfix Fixed footstool glitch allowing infinite.
  • Notice The second hit of Robin's jab has been adjusted.

  • Nerf Luma respawn time: 8 seconds → 13 seconds
  • Nerf Luma can no longer attack if Rosalina is being thrown (though it still can during grabs).

  • Nerf Down tilt hitbox 1 radius: 3.5 → 3.2
  • Nerf Down tilt hitbox 2 radius: 3 → 2.5
  • Nerf Forward smash knockback scaling: 115 → 111

  • Buff Luma up smash hitbox radius: 4.0 → 5.5

  • Nerf Neutral aerial damage: 6% (early), 10% (late) → 5% (early), 7.5% (late)
  • Nerf Neutral aerial hitbox radii: 5.0, 3.5 → 4.2, 3.0
  • Notice Neutral aerial hitbox x-offsets: 4.5, -1.5 → 3.0, -2.0
  • Nerf Forward aerial loop hit base knockback: 20/35 → 55
  • Nerf Forward aerial last hit base knockback: 60 → 50
  • Nerf Forward throw base knockback: 85 → 76
  • Nerf Back throw base knockback: 70 → 60
  • Notice Distance of uncharged Luma Shot is reduced by about 2/3.
  • Notice Lumas move faster when summoned from a distance.
Stock SSB4 sheik Sheik
  • Nerf Forward aerial damage reduced from 6.8% to 5.5% (sweetspot) and 6% to 4.8% (sourspot).
  • Nerf Up aerial hits one less time and does 7% damage instead of 8%.
  • Nerf Up air knockback growth: 166 → 138
  • Nerf Bouncing Fish knockback growth: 100 → 90
  • Nerf Bouncing Fish base knockback: 30 → 26
Stock SSB4 shulk Shulk
  • Buff Both Jab 1 and 2 damage has been increased: 3% → 3.5%
  • Buff Jab 3 damage increased: 4.3% → 5.3%
  • Buff Forward tilt's damage increased: 12% → 13%
    • Nerf Its knockback scaling has been slightly reduced: 100 → 92
  • Buff Dash attack's damage increased: 10% → 11%
  • Buff Up tilt's damage increased: 7% → 8%
  • Buff Down tilt's damage increased: 8% → 9%
  • Buff Forward smash deals more damage overall: 17.5% → 18.5%
    • Buff The first hit of now contains weaker knockback, making it easier to connect with the second hit.
    • Notice Both the hitboxes and the trajectory of both hits has been tweaked.
  • Buff Up smash deals more damage overall: 17% → 18%
    • Buff Both hits now connects more reliably.
  • Buff All hitboxes for down smash deal 1% more damage.
  • Buff All aerials deal 1% more damage.
  • Buff Forward aerial's landing lag has been slightly reduced.
  • Buff All throws deals 1% more damage.
  • Buff Shulk now only takes 1.13x damage during Buster instead of 1.20x.
    • Buff Speed has a damage value of x0.80 instead of x0.72.

  • Nerf Ending lag of forward smash has been increased.
  • Bugfix Fixed a bug where grabbing Sonic after any up special wouldn't refresh it.

Stock SSB4 wario Wario
  • Bugfix Momentum's glitch ("Wectoring") has been removed.
  • Buff Air grab release sends him farther, and cannot be combo'd out of it.
Stock SSB4 wii fit trainer Wii Fit Trainer
  • Nerf Air dodge landing lag standardized from 12 frames to 22.
  • Notice Forward aerial's foot hitbox is no longer unshieldable.
Stock SSB4 yoshi Yoshi
  • Bugfix Fixed a glitch that allowed Yoshi to execute a super high High Jump immediately after using Yoshi Bomb.
  • Bugfix Fixed a glitch which allowed Yoshi to teleport back to an edge after using his up special.
  • Bugfix Fixed the "Giant Yoshi Glitch", which allowed characters to grow to ridiculous sizes in Multi-Man mode.
  • Notice Yoshi can no longer slide on slopes with Yoshi Bomb.
  • Nerf Egg Lay has increased startup lag.
  • Nerf Dash attack's ending lag has been slightly increased.
  • Nerf Down aerial ending lag has been increased.
Stock SSB4 zelda Zelda
  • Buff Up tilt's damage has been increased: 6.5% → 7.2%
  • Nerf Pivot grab's range has been reduced.
Stock SSB4 zero suit samus Zero Suit Samus
  • Nerf Air dodge landing lag standardized from 15 frames to 22.
  • Nerf Up Smash now hits 3 frames sooner.
  • Nerf Paralyzer has increased ending lag.
