The Nintendo 3DS (often called N3DS or just 3DS for short) is a portable game handheld created by Nintendo. It is an autostereoscopic device capable of projecting stereoscopic 3D effects without the use of 3D glasses or additional accessories.

Nintendo announced the device in March 2010 and officially unveiled it at E3 2010 on June 15, 2010. The console succeeds the Nintendo DS, featuring backward compatibility with older Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi video games, and competes with the Sony PlayStation Vita handheld console. It's Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS' main platform and it also works as a controller in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

A second model of Nintendo 3DS, the Nintendo 3DS XL, was released on July 28th in Japan and Europe, and in North America on August 19th, boasting larger screens than the original Nintendo 3DS.

A third variation of the Nintendo 3DS, called the Nintendo 2DS, was released in all regions except Japan on October 12, 2013. It is considered a reduced-cost Nintendo 3DS, with a flat design rather than a clamshell design; it also lacks the option for 3D visuals.

The New Nintendo 3DS XL and New Nintendo 3DS is an upgraded version of the Nintendo 3DS. It counts with a bigger size than the default New Nintendo 3DS, bigger size, faster downloads and startup, more control with the 3D camera, and also comes with a new C-Stick that moves the camera (that is used to do Smash Attacks) as well as having Super Stable 3D.

Some games are exclusive to this handheld like Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. New Nintendo 3DS also has built-in amiibo compatibility, whereas previous Nintendo 3DS models require a Nintendo 3DS NFC Reader/Writer Adapter to interact with the figurines.

The New Nintendo 2DS XL is the sixth iteration of the Nintendo 3DS family, and it is an upgraded version of the Nintendo 2DS.

The New Nintendo 2DS XL is a bigger sized handheld that now folds like a clamshell and features; built-in amiibo functionality, a C-Stick for moving the camera and performing Smash Attacks, and a stronger processor that works similarly to New Nintendo 3DS systems.

Although the New Nintendo 2DS XL lacks 3D capability, it still comes at a cheap price of $149.99 as well as being to play exclusive New Nintendo 3DS games like Xenoblade Chronicles 3D and the SNES Virtual Console.
