Nabbit is a non-playable character who appears in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. He appears in the Mushroom Kingdom U stage as a hazard. Nabbit snatches nearby players in his bag and tries to fly out of the blast line with them to K.O. them. In New Super Mario Bros. U, Nabbit is seen in certain worlds and side missions when Toad is captured and the player must catch the Nabbit and set him free. It's possible to attack Nabbit, and if he is attacked he will be launched away.

In Smash Tour[]

Nabbit appears as a random event in Smash Tour. He moves along the map picking up any item he comes across, and whoever bumps into him will retrieve his whole loot.

Trophy Description[]

NabbitTrophyWiiU

An underhanded little rascal who steals items from the Toad Houses and runs away with them. If you catch him, Toad might repay you with a nice present. In New Super Luigi U, he even manages to nab a position as a playable character! From burglar to hero in the blink of an eye... Not bad work, all things considered.

Gameplay[]

Nabbit in a "kidnapping" attempt with Zelda inside of his bag in Ultimate.

Nabbit is not a playable character but rather a stage element in the Mushroom Kingdom U stage. As the stage appears in Smash for Wii U and Smash Ultimate Nabbit also makes his appearance in both games. In both games Nabbit works just the same, he randomly can appear in each of the stage's transition during gameplay. When he appears he has a degree of recovery and movement. Nabbit's "attack" is swinging his back down, open part first. This attack can be highly telegraphed as surprised symbols appear in front of him when he sees a playable character. It should be noted he can only grab playable characters and not Pokemon or assist trophies.

When Nabbit connects with a character, he will usually begin walking around the stage for a bit, usually seeking the closest ledge. When Nabbit reaches a ledge instead of jumping off or falling he instead actually begins to start flying up the stage, at times he might bypass the walking part and just begin the flying part (this gives the player less time to attempt to escape). When Nabbit begins flying he will fly up right to the blastzone with the character in tow and KO them if they do not escape in time. This makes Nabbit a hybrid between the Beetle and Kappn's bus of sorts, as Nabbit has a similar abduction style of the Beetle (and Boss Galaga) but is more dynamic than the items.

Event: Enough with the Kidnapping![]

Nabbit appears in this event match as a hazard and a potential "kidnapper" of Princess Peach. Nabbit helps the theme of this mission of Peach getting continuously kidnapped in her own series and Peach fighting them off. He works just like regular matches and will randomly appear as the stage transitions and will be another kidnapping element Peach will have to contend with. However unlike the Boss Galaga that respawns in this stage that is programmed ONLY to follow and pick up Peach and how both Bowser and his Son only attack Peach in an attempt to take stocks Nabbit has no unique programming. While he is fully capable of stuffing Peach in his bag and kidnapping her he will also "attack" the koopas and attempt to kidnap them just as much as he would Peach, meaning he can actually be a helper. Nabbit can also "save" the player in a way as his kidnapping style is faster than Boss Galaga, meaning if the player at high damage is caught by Boss Galaga there is a chance he might actually catch and kidnap the remaining Koopa before Boss Galaga can take away Peach.

Origin[]

In New Super Mario Bros. U, Nabbit appears throughout several levels. When encountered by Mario and friends, they must chase him throughout the course within 100 seconds. When Nabbit is eventually caught, Toad will take a P-Acorn out of the bag and give it to the player as a reward. If players fail to catch him three times, Nabbit will flee and disappear until conditions are met.

Nabbit reappears in New Super Luigi U, this time as a new playable character (replacing Mario from the original game). Unlike other playable characters, Nabbit cannot use power-ups other than Super Mushrooms or ride Yoshis, but he is immune to all enemy attacks, though he can still get knocked back by tougher enemies. Despite his immunity to enemy attacks, Nabbit can still lose lives by falling into lava, getting crushed by certain obstacles, etc.

Trivia[]

  • There is a glitch involving Nabbit in which the player throws him and pauses the game in Training mode as they do so. If done correctly, Nabbit will be stuck to the person that threw him. If a character does the same to another opponent while Nabbit is attached to them, Nabbit and the thrown fighter will be stuck to the thrower. This bears some similarity to the Soul Breaker glitch in Melee.
    • This can also cause the game to crash.
    • This glitch was patched in version 1.0.6.
  • The size of Nabbit's bag is always the same whether he has a small fighter such as Kirby, a tall and thin one such as Zelda or a round fighter such as Bowser, furthermore his actions once he bagged a fighter seem to be unaffected by the fighter's weight.
