Grand Cross is Simon and Richter Belmont's Final Smash in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Overview

Upon activation, a large coffin appears in front of Simon/Richter and sucks anyone nearby into it. Simon/Richter and the coffin will then be transported to another area, and Simon/Richter will use his whip to lift the coffin into the air before shooting it with several cross-shaped energy beams, dealing great damage to his opponents inside. They will then return to the stage, where the fighters in the coffin will suffer great knockback.

Origin

Grand Cross first appeared in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood as the Item Crash move for the Cross subweapon costing 20 hearts to use. When used, a number of large crucifixes with emaciated bodies on them (an image similar to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ) rose from the bottom of the screen before ending with a larger cross rising then fading from view. In the SNES version of the game, Castlevania: Dracula X, the move instead takes the form of several Cross weapons flying about the screen.

Grand Cross later reappeared in Symphony of the Night serving a similar purpose, though in a slightly redesigned form. Several crucifixes rose and circled a large pillar of light that then expanded to damage all onscreen enemies. Richter uses this move against Alucard as the opening attack in the former's boss fight, and it is also the only action Alucard can perform with the Cross subweapon equipped, at the cost of 100 hearts.

Julius Belmont of Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow has Grand Cross as a usable attack, though his takes a far different form. Julius' version of the move takes the form of a single, giant cross made of holy light exuded from Julius' own body, and does rapid, heavy damage to enemies around him. He uses this partway through his boss fight against Soma Cruz.
