Gordo Toss is King Dedede's Side Special Move in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. It is very similar to Waddle Dee Toss from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but Dedede only throws Gordos this time.

Overview[]

King Dedede takes out a Gordo and hits it with a hammer, sending it bouncing across the stage. Anyone who is hit by a Gordo is dealt considerable damage and knockback. However, Gordos can be reflected with nearly any attack.

The angle, distance, and height at which the Gordos travel can be influenced by using directional inputs just before King Dedede hits the Gordo with his hammer. Smash inputs also slightly effect these factors, making for a total of six different variations at which the Gordo can travel. Inputting left or right launches the Gordo out at its greatest distance and its lowest height. Smash input left or right causes the Gordo to go farther and faster. Inputting upwards causes the Gordo to be launched at a steeper angle and at its lowest range; it bounces the highest with this variation; this launch variation can be useful for edge-guarding by dropping the Gordos off the edge onto recovering opponents. The upwards smash input launch variation stays along relatively the same path, but the Gordos bounce higher and go out slightly farther. Inputting downwards causes the Gordo to launch at a sort of combination between the left/right and upwards launch angles. The Gordo is launched outwards much like the left/right launch angle and towards the end of the path bounces much higher and steeper and going a shorter distance horizontally, much like the upwards launch variation. Smash inputting downwards causes the Gordo to go farther, faster, and bounce slightly higher.

Custom Variations[]

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, with the introduction of Custom Moves, King Dedede has 2 variations of Gordo Throw.

Topspin Gordo[]

Topspin Gordo throws a Gordo that moves slowly at first, then kicks into high gear after it bounces.

Strengths:

  • Projectile is overall faster
  • Better for zoning opponents
  • Harder for opponents to 'reflect' at Dedede due to high speed
  • Greater range

Weaknesses:

  • Projectile cannot be angled
  • Projectile moves slowly until it hits the ground
  • Poorer for use in combos

The Topspin Gordo takes the Gordo Toss and makes it more into a projectile than a combo tool. The custom move is worse for use in combos but has greater range and the projectile moves faster after it bounces off of the ground. Until it hits the ground, the projectile moves slowly, and King Dedede I unable to change the angle at which the Gordo bounces with directional inputs; once it hits the ground, the Gordo zooms away at top speeds in a horizontal path, making the move better suited for zoning opponents. Additionally, this speed makes the projectile more difficult for opponents to reflect since they must time their attack more precisely.

Bouncing Gordo[]

Bouncing Gordo throws a Gordo that bounces back and forth. It lasts awhile, but each hit doesn't hurt much.

Strengths:

  • Creates an obstacle on the stage
  • Outstanding combo tool
  • Greater range

Weaknesses:

  • Deals less damage each time it bounces

The Bouncing Gordo is an outstanding combo tool since as it bounces back and forth across the stage King Dedede can launch or throw opponents into the path of the Gordo to be hit by it in order to set up for a subsequent attack. The Gordo has greater range overall and it creates an obstacle on the stage that opponents need to deal with. With no upwards or downwards inputs, the Gordo bounces a good range back and forth at a mid-height. Inputting downwards causes it to bounce across a smaller area of the stage and at lower heights, good for forcing opponents into the air or for sanctioning off more specific areas of the stage for King Dedede to work with. An upwards input causes it to bounce the farthest and highest of the three, forcing opponents to take a grounded approach. With smash inputs, each of the directional variations bounce a little higher, farther, and faster. The projectile deals less damage if it hits an opponent each time it bounces, making it unreliable for packing on damage though still retaining its reliability as a combo tool.

Trivia[]

  • One of King Dedede's attacks seen during his boss fight in Kirby Fighters 2 shows him swinging Gordos at Kirby, very similar to this special attack.
