This article is about the rare and powerful item. For the regular hammer, click here, for Kirby's side special move, click here.

The Golden Hammer (ゴルデンハンマー goruden hanmā?) is an item in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It acts similarly to a regular Hammer, but improved in every way. It is more powerful, it's swung faster, and can even let the user float in midair if the user taps A repeatedly. While the Hammer gives vertical knockback, the Golden Hammer gives more horizontal knockback. However, it is exceptionally rare. A platform under it spawns first, and then it will spawn the Golden Hammer with a very distinct sound effect. Also, like the Hammer's Headless Hammer, the Golden Hammer can become the Golden Squeaky Hammer, which makes whistle sounds rather than squeaky.

Golden Squeaky Hammer[]

Squeak

Wario remains completely unaffected by the Golden Squeaky Hammer.

The Golden Squeaky Hammer is an item in Brawl. Although indistinguishable from a normal Golden Hammer, it is completely useless in terms of attack. Instead of the usual heavy damage and knockback, it simply squeaks when it strikes a foe, causing no ill effect. This is the Golden Hammer's parallel to the normal Hammer's Headless Hammer. The Golden Squeaky Hammer does, however, grant the floating abilities of the normal Golden Hammer. Also, when characters are hit by a Golden Hammer within the brief period of invincibility after being respawned, the Golden Hammer will most likely become squeaky. Oddly enough, characters with counters (like Marth) can still counter the attack, despite the Squeaky Hammer not doing any damage.

Challenges[]

Unlocking certain challenges will give players access to a limited supply of Golden Hammers to break some of the Challenge boxes. There are five in all to collect. Although some of the challenges can be opened with a Golden Hammer, the Golden Hammer will sometimes be rejected, particularly on some of the more difficult challenges. Any of the Boss Battle challenges cannot be opened with a Golden Hammer, except in the PAL version.

The Golden Hammer, in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, works similarly to the previous titles, however, now requires a certain number of challenges to be unlocked in order to get one. Some challenges, mostly in the Spirits page, cannot be completed with them.

Trophy Description[]

Golden Hammer Trophy

The Golden Hammer Trophy is obtained by hitting 45,000 ft. (15,000m PAL) combined distance with all fighter's Home-Run Contest records.

A hammer that glows with golden light. It's easier to swing than a normal hammer, and more powerful too. If you tilt the Control Stick and press the attack button repeatedly, you float in midair. It's a very powerful item, but one that rarely appears. There's also a Golden Squeaky Hammer that does absolutely no damage at all. It's what you would call a fake.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U[]

This special hammer is several times stronger than the regular hammer. While wielding it, jumping repeatedly will let you float in the air. It doesn't appear often, so grab it when it does! However, watch out for the squeaky version. It looks like the normal one but is really useless.

NES - Wrecking Crew (10/1985)

Origin[]

The Golden Hammer originates from the NES game Wrecking Crew, where it is a rare and temporary item that allows the player to swing faster. It is also more powerful than a normal hammer. When the hammer appears, a short tune can be heard, and when the hammer is acquired the "Power-Up Music" is played, a behavior mirrored in Brawl. The Golden Squeaky Hammer, however, is an original item for Brawl (It does, however, have similarities to the squeaky hammer used in Mario Party games).

Trivia[]

  • The Golden Squeaky Hammer makes whistle sounds rather than the sound a squeaky toy hammer would make.
  • The music that plays while holding the Golden Hammer can also play on the Mario Bros. Stage.
  • If Kirby eats a Golden Hammer, he will determine if it was a Squeaky or not. If it was a Golden Squeaky Hammer, it makes a slight squeak sound when he eats it.
