With Friends is one of two online multiplayer modes in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, the other being With Anyone. In this mode, players can only play with friends that they have registered on their Friend List. Unlike With Anyone, records are actually kept and names will be seen. Opponents will also be able to see your icon and comments about yourself before battle. The number of ways you can play is also much more expansive.
Regular Versus mode matches can be played with all the usual options, although Special mode and 8-Player Smash are not available. In addition, you can also play co-op Home-Run Contest and Multi-Man mode. During normal battles, you will also have much more customization options, such as shouting out short, predetermined messages by taunting.
In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, voice chat can be enabled in With Friends, using the Wii U gamepad's microphone.
