Figure Player(s) (フィギュア プレーヤー Figyua purēyā) abbreiviated as FP or FPs (known as FIG in the European and JF and Spanish versions), commonly referred to as amiibo in-game, are types of fighters that can be used in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U as customizable A.I characters.
amiibo stats will be changed by "feeding" them epuipment, as well as being able to change it's Custom Moves.
As the amiibo levels up, it will "learn" techniques. For example, if an amiibo fights against an opponent who uses long-ranged, camping attacks, then the amiibo will it. Figure Players will continue to learn various techniques even after they reach a maximum level of 50.
In addition, an amiibo can gain improved fighting stats, such as improved attack power, defense, knockback, and reaction times, the higher level it is. However, even higher leveled amiibo have their flaws on complex stages, like walking back and forth on stages like Gaur Plain. amiibo can also win prizes like; Gold, Custom Parts, Trophies, and Mii Fighter Gear. The longer the amiibo fights, the more prizes it will gain.
Finally, higher-leveled amiibo can adapt to individual matches faster than lower-leveled amiibo; if an opponent takes on an aggressive, rush-down style attacks against the amiibo in one match, for instance, it will make more use of it's defensive techiques like spot-dodges and rolls.
amiibo level up and learn faster by:
- Having it play on someonelse's Nintendo 3DS and/or Wii U.
- Losing in stock battles.
- Making it fight against different fighters as both games clearly state.
- Letting it fight against other Figure Players (like FP fighters that have aggressive A.I), Examples; Lucas, Lucina, Fox, Ness, and so on.
- Letting your amiibo get free attacks on you sometimes so that it better understands the opponent. Example; Teaching a Zero Suit Samus amiibo to use her Up Special to K.O opponents.
- Use the same fighter as the amiibo you're playing against.
It should be noted that like CPUs, Figure Players have the ability to share their remaining Stocks with their defeated allies in Team Battles. As well as being able to throw healing items to assist their teammates.
While Super Smash Bros. for Wii U natively supports amiibo, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS was unable to do so at launch. Version 1.0.5, released on February 9, 2015, added amiibo support for all Nintendo 3DS systems including Nintendo 2DS and New Nintendo 2DS XL.
