An Echo Fighter is a term used to describe characters who are considered an almost complete clone of another character. sharing essentially all of the main attributes of the original character (such as speed, jumps, KO power and weight), to the point where you can play the two identically even in competitive play. Echo Fighters always have unique taunts and victory poses, and may receive additional changes (such as other animations or some gameplay adjustments) if necessary. They are featured in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and all of them are unlockable.

For example, Daisy plays virtually identically to Peach, sharing every single move and attribute. However, she has various different animations and visual effects. Lucina's gameplay and animations are all extremely similar to Marth's with only the sword properties being different.

Similar characters, such as Dr. Mario or Pichu, who have major differences in their attributes and move properties, are not classified as Echo Fighters. Characters such as Alph and the Koopalings share every animation and only differ in model and name, so they are classified as a Palette Swap. Note that Byleth does not get an Echo Fighter even though he and his female counterpart have different animations (which are aesthetic for gameplay).

Characters who are Echo Fighters are denoted by the lower-case Epsilon (ε) letter from Greek alphabet in the International version, while in Japanese version is denoted by the Prima (').

Echo Fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]

  • Dark Samus (Samus) - Dark Samus has a different stance due to her ability to fly. She possesses the same moves.
  • Daisy (Peach) - Aesthetic differences. Daisy creates two rainbows above her head for her Up Aerial while Princess Peach just creates just one. Peach's Side Special Move, Peach Bomber, creates a heart visual upon collision while Daisy's (Daisy Bomber) creates daisies.
  • Lucina (Marth) - No sweetspots.
  • Chrom (Roy) - No sweetspots. Chrom uses Soaring Slash when he does his Up Special Move instead of Roy's slow version of Dolphin Slash. He does not inflict fire damage. Chrom's Final Smash is also completely different from Roy's.
  • Dark Pit (Pit) - Dark Pit is aggressive, so he deals more damage with his Standard Special Move, Silver Bow, and has a different Side Special Move, Electroshock Arm, which deals slightly more damage and launches opponents diagonally instead of vertically. His Star KO in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate remains unchanged, while Pit now screams, "I NEVER LEARNED HOW TO REAAAAAAAD...!!!" when he gets Star KO'd.
  • Ken (Ryu) - Ken has several differences including different input commands. He also lacks Ryu's Shakunetsu, but makes up with Oosoto Mawashi Geri kick. His Back Throw is also a Hell Wheel rather than the standard Tomoe Nage (Somersault Throw). Both of his Final Smashes are completely different.
  • Richter (Simon) - The classic example. Simon Belmont and Richter Belmont actually borrow moves from one another, so this should be no surprise. Their differences are also aesthetic, however, the flames from Richter's Down Special are aura-based, as the flames from Simon's Down Special are fire-based. This means a Fire Pikmin can walk through Simon's, but not Richter's.
