Crazy Hand (クレイジーハンド Kureijī Hando?) is the left-handed counterpart of Master Hand. Crazy Hand first appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee, and he is a major antagonist in several of his appearances. Aside from being a left hand, Crazy Hand has the exact same appearance, but it is noticeably different in behavior, mainly from being more chaotic, impulsive, destructive, and faster.

Crazy Hand is often fought with Master Hand on different iterations of Final Destination. When preparing for an attack, Crazy Hand's movements are also different. When joined with Master Hand, they can perform several cooperative attacks that usually do 1.5-2 times as much damage. Crazy Hand will attack a lot faster than Master Hand. Crazy Hand, like Master Hand, is not normally playable without the aid of a cheating device.

Crazy Hand is voiced by in Dean Harrington (Melee), Pat Cashman (Brawl), and Xander Mobus (3DS / Wii U and Ultimate), who also voiced the announcer of the respective games.

History[]

Super Smash Bros. Melee[]

In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Crazy Hand can be fought with Master Hand on Final Destination in Classic Mode, but only on Normal or higher difficulty, if the player reduces Master Hand's HP by half in under 5 minutes and 50 seconds. If done correctly, Crazy Hand appears and (depending with the difficulty) his difficulty matches to whatever Master Hand started with from the beginning. However, if the player loses the match and opts for continuing, Crazy Hand will not be fought in the retry. Defeating Crazy Hand in Classic mode earns the player 80000 points, which is mandatory for obtaining the Diskun trophy.

Crazy Hand is also fought with Master Hand in Event 50: Final Destination Match, but a difference is that Crazy Hand is fought with Master Hand from the start.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Crazy Hand can be fought in Classic Mode like before, but the criteria for doing so requires the player to arrive at Final Destination within nine minutes with the difficulty level set to Hard or higher. Similarly to his appearance in Melee's Event 50: Final Destination Match, Crazy Hand shows up to battle instantly right away instead of only after Master Hand's HP is reduced by half.

Crazy Hand is one of many bosses in Boss Battles Mode, which is the only time he is fought separately from Master Hand. Crazy Hand is the only boss whom the player does not have to fight to unlock the mode, as Crazy Hand is the only boss to not appear in Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary, despite its trophy erroneously appearing under the "The Subspace Emissary" section.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS[]

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Crazy Hand and Master Hand both retain their roles of being a final boss of Classic Mode in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. However, rather than having to clear Classic Mode within a certain time, Crazy Hand will appear in battle if the player sets the intensity to 3.0 or higher, and chooses the black path at the end. However, on intensity 8.0 and higher, only the black path will be available, and Crazy Hand must be fought. In battle, both Master Hand and Crazy Hand share their stamina. When the intensity is set to 5.1 or higher, after losing a portion of stamina, Master Hand will be engulfed in flames and exit the battle, while Crazy Hand will transform into the Master Core.

Crazy Hand also has a new move, known as the Void. He rips open some part of the air and can suck the players into a void, which deal damage after the players are launched out. The Void can only be avoided by shielding and performing continuous rolls.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U[]

Master Hand and Crazy Hand battle SSBfWU

Crazy Hand is also a final boss in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U's Classic mode. However, unlike in the 3DS version, players will be forced to fight Crazy Hand, along with Master Hand, at intensity 3.0 or higher; this also means that at intensities 5.1 and above, Master Core must be fought as well. Crazy Hand retains his Void move from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

One of the two Special Orders modes is Crazy Orders, which involves using a pass or spending gold to participate in consecutive battles and racking up rewards within ten minutes. After winning at least one battle, the player can choose to fight Crazy Hand in a stamina match. Depending on how many tickets have been cleared cleared, additional opponents may appear alongside Crazy Hand, including Master Hand. Crazy Hand occasionally drops chests when hit, and when defeated, the player gets to keep all rewards accumulated.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Crazy Hand is a boss in Classic Mode. Here, Crazy Hand appears alongside Master Hand if the player reaches Intensity 7.0 or higher, though some fighters are assigned to fight the former alone. In the case of Falco and Ken, their respective Classic Mode routes feature Crazy Hand as the final boss and have Master Hand join him at higher difficulties.

In Adventure Mode: World of Light, many Crazy Hands appears after Galeem's initial defeat, all of which led by Galeem's dark counterpart, Dharkon. He is fought three times in the Dark Realm, one guarding each of the three pathways into the subareas, and twice more during The Final Battle. Once the player manages to get the true ending's requirements, Crazy Hand and Master Hand are freed and they help the player by creating a giant rift using Static Discharge for the latter to enter and destroy 50 false characters. Crazy Hand's freedom suggests that, like the fighters, he was captured by Dharkon before the events of World of Light and then cloned into controllable puppets.

This is the first game where Crazy Hand can face in either direction (left or right), which he combines with snapping his fingers to teleport around.

There is an Ace-class Neutral-type primary spirit of Crazy Hand. It allows three support slots, and it can be obtained by winning the last battle against Crazy Hand in World of Light. It is among the most powerful spirits in the game.

Moveset (Melee)[]

Crazy Hand

Official artwork of Crazy Hand in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Note that none of the names are official. Crazy Hand can only be played via hacking with an Action Replay. All directions are pressed on the D-Pad, not the Control Stick. Lastly, Crazy Hand can only be controlled by Player 4. Also note that some of Crazy Hand's moves (the one that Master Hand also has) have a second effect like freezing. Crazy Hand is a more dangerous foe than Master Hand since he has more attacks, and many of his attacks also have side effects, such as the Lip's Stick flower. Crazy Hand also attacks more frequently, giving fewer opportunities to hit, which makes the battle in Classic Mode harder because the fight with him and Master Hand is timed. Furthermore, on Very Hard difficulty, Crazy Hand's drill, rocket punch, jet (only when he attempts to fly into the player), third poke, grab (forward throw), and punch (on grounded players) are all a one-hit KO.

However, Master Hand was buffed in Brawl, making Crazy Hand less powerful than Master Hand .

Trivia[]

  • Crazy Hand, along with Master Hand, appear in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror as the bosses of Candy Constellation, but he has the same attacks as Master Hand, not counting combination attacks. The reason for his appearance is because the creator of the Super Smash Bros. series (HAL Laboratory) is also the creator of the Kirby series.
  • In his Brawl trophy description, it says that Crazy Hand appears "when Master Hand's power begins to ebb". This is not true; as long as the player reaches the final stage on hard or above in nine minutes or less, Crazy Hand appears at the beginning of the fight, alongside Master Hand. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, however, this statement was true; Crazy Hand appeared when Master Hand's health had been cut in half.
  • Although his dying scream is found in Super Smash Bros. Brawl's Sound Test, his opening laugh is absent.
  • Crazy Hand's attacks have, as a whole, the most effects of any Super Smash Bros. boss, including fire, freezing, electricity, burying, flowering (grab), and darkness.
  • Crazy Hand is the 'left handed brother' of Master Hand, and he is Crazy. This could be inspired of an old saying that the left hand is evil in the past. as well as Sinister meaning left or evil. This may also play off the belief that left-handedness leads to greater risk of mental/psychological disorders, in other words, craziness.
  • A move where Crazy Hand slaps across the stage like he does in Melee is present in Brawl, but he never performs it by normal means. His slap can be performed/found via hacks.
  • In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, there is a glitch where if you pause at the same time one of the hands is dying, the laugh will not be heard. It is unknown why this glitch happens.
  • In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the inside of Crazy Hand, which can normally be seen directly through his wrist, is missing. When the camera is looking directly through his wrist, it will instead show anything that's supposed to be behind him and, if possible, parts of his fingers. This applies to Master Hand as well, though this does not apply to either of their trophies nor in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.
  • The Black Hole that Crazy Hand creates when he performs the Big Rip attack in 3DS/Wii U bears a resemblance to Marx's Black Hole attack in Ultimate in function, but using a rectangular hole rather than the traditional circle and with the victim being sent flying out from the vortex's center rather than into the stage from the sky if Crazy Hand catches them.
