Clown Kart Dash is Bowser Jr.'s Side Special Move. The Clown Car sprouts wheels, allowing Bowser Jr. to go fast and ram into opponents.

Overview

The Clown Car sprouts wheels and activates rockets, propelling Bowser Jr. forwards. Bowser Jr. can damage opponents by ramming into them. The rockets can propel Bowser Jr. even in the air, making this a good horizontal recovery. Bowser Jr. gains a ground boost if he lands using this move in midair. Bowser Jr. can jump out of the move and directly combo it into any of his aerial attacks, making this move an excellent combo starter and speedy approach option.

Custom Variations

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, Clown Kart Dash can be customized into Koopa Drift and Grounding Dash.

Koopa Drift

Koopa Drift causes the kart to careen forward when spinning at the end, hitting opponents multiple times.

Strengths:

  • Deals more damage while skidding
  • Skids more times
  • Skids will carry opponents with Bowser Jr. before launching

Weaknesses:

  • Deals no damage while regularly driving forwards
  • Covers less distance

Bowser Jr.'s custom variation Koopa Drift decreases the distance at which the kart travels, but when the kart skids it does so multiple times while also dealing more damage to opponents. Bowser Jr. won't damage opponents when he is driving normally though the move can still make for a speedy approach option. When hit by the skidding clown kart opponents are carried along with Bowser Jr. and then launched away from him.

Grounding Dash

Grounding Dash buries opponents the kart runs into. It doesn't go far, and ends in an auto spin.

Strengths:

  • Buries grounded opponents hit by it
  • Travels faster once it starts going

Weaknesses:

  • Slower to start
  • Falls faster when used in the air

The Grounding Dash custom move is slower to start but is much faster once it starts to move forwards. This speed can make it difficult to avoid, and grounded opponents will stay grounded as the kart buries them upon crashing into them. This can leave opponents vulnerable to combo starters and kill moves. The move falls faster when used in the air making it poor for use in recovery.

Origin

This is based on the Koopa Clown, a unlockable part in Mario Kart 7. In the game, the Koopa Clown boosts handling, but lowers acceleration and off-road slightly.
