The Armanks (アーマン, Arman in Japan) are some of the more powerful enemies in The Subspace Emissary in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. They first appear in The Wilds (Part I).

Description[]

Although they look like large tanks, Armanks actually consist only of a green blob with red eyes that controls the vehicle. Their vehicles bear similarities to a tank, but instead of an actual cannon, they are equipped with large, retractable arms. While the arm is retracted, Armanks are immune to damage, as well as only being able to roll around on their treads, which can deal damage to any player who makes contact with them. Eventually, they will extend their arm, which may then either shoot out in a ramming attack towards any nearby player, perform a sweeping attack along the ground, or fire two energy pulses in quick succession which can be bounced back at them by attacks that can reflect projectiles.

In the event that the arm is destroyed, the Armank's chassis is forced open, revealing the green blob in a panicked state. Attacking the green blob is Armank's only weak spot, and by attacking it repeatedly, the Armank, chassis and all, will perform short, non-damaging bounces, preventing it from closing its chassis again. If the Armank closes its chassis successfully, it will reproduce its arm and restart the cycle. Additionally, if a player attacks an Armank the moment it appears (before it makes contact with the ground), they will be able to deal damage as if they had already destroyed the Armank's arm. According to the Armank trophy, it is used as a construction vehicle. When trying to capture its trophy, the Trophy Stand must be thrown at the green blob that appears when its arm is shattered.

In the second Subspace Bomb Factory stage, two Armanks will show up as the final opponent during the locked battle that occurs after Ganondorf forces the R.O.B. units (except the playable R.O.B., who joins the player) to detonate every Subspace Bomb.

Name origin[]

Armank's name is a combination of the words "armor" or "arm" and "tank". The arm part might describe the dragon-like appendage that it uses to attack the player.

Trophy description[]

Armank Trophy
A brutal enemy in the Subspace Army or mobile construction equipment? Yes, it moves on treads and has a functional construction arm, but that arm is also capable of brutal attacks. Continue attacking the arm to reveal the Armank's weak spot. Wait... It looks like there's mud on the end of the arm! Maybe the Armank IS just a construction vehicle for the Subspace Army!
