In the Super Smash Bros. series, an ally is a A.I controlled teammate that helps the human player in some rounds in Classic Mode and in some events. Allies have their control status appear as a heart instead of the regular "CP" code.
In Super Smash Bros.
In Super Smash Bros., there are two rounds in the 1P Game in which there are allies, the allies are selected by random and that the are three properties in which the ally selection progress is at follows:
a) The ally cannot be the same character as the human player or any other ally.
b) The ally will use the character's default costume (expect for Luigi, see below for details).
The following two rounds which consists allies are:
- Round 4: Mario Bros. - In this round, the player and a randomly selected ally face Mario and Luigi on Peach's Castle. The ally will never be Mario. However if Luigi is unlocked, the ally can use him in his second costume as the default costume will be used by the other Luigi (unless the human player is Luigi and uses his default costume).
- Round 6: Giant Donkey Kong - In this round, the player with two allies, again selected randomly face a Giant Donkey Kong on Congo Jungle. However, one of the allies can use regular DK if it's not being used by the human player. The Giant DK will use his default costume, regardless if the human player or ally uses DK in his default costume as Giant DK is considered to be a different character from regular DK in Super Smash Bros.
In Super Smash Bros. Melee
In Classic Mode, if an ally is present, they will use their first alternate costume. However if there are two allies, the first ally will use the character's second alternate costume while the second ally will use the character's first alternate costume.
